Frequently Asked Questions about OnPar
Where do I download the OnPar Synchro application to load courses on my OnPar?
OnPar Synchro can be found in the Quick Start Guide section of Support (click here). If you have a new or another PC you want to use to load courses onto your OnPar, you can simply download and install the application and you DO NOT have to register your device again.

How do I start and end a round of golf when using OnPar?
Start a Golf Round: When you are at the course, have touched the course from the Course List that you are physically at, a golf round is started and any tracked shots or scores will be saved to the golf session. If at any time, a user moves outside the edges of the OnPar screen of a Hole View image that is also on the outer edge of the Course View image, OnPar will assume you are trying to leave the course and ask “Would You Like to End the Current Golf Session? >> YES or NO” dialog is displayed. User answers YES and round ends and reverts back to Course List screen…OR, user powers device off to end a golf session.

How many courses are available?
We currently have over 14,500 courses available and continuing to build our course map database. Courses outside the USA are now available and continue to build our International maps database.

How does the Auto Next Hole Feature work?
The latest software update (version 1.1.5.28802) includes an enhanced Auto Next Hole Feature. This feature works as follows:
  • When you are looking at the hole view on your OnPar and the device is not in suspend, as you enter the tee box area of the next hole, a screen will display asking you "Proceed to next hole?"
  • Answering YES will display the hole view of the next hole.
  • Answering NO will take you back to your previous view. The question will be displayed again after 10 seconds if you are still in the tee box area of the next hole until you answer YES.
  • This feature only works from the Hole View and the device must be out of suspend mode and user located in the next hole's tee box area.
  • If your device was in suspend mode, you walked to the next hole, passed the tee box area, and then resumed your OnPar device in the middle of the fairway; the Auto Next Hole feature will not know to display the next hole view. You will need to manually advance to the next hole.
  • Users can always manually advance to the next hole from the Scorecard view or close up Green view by pressing the "Next Hole" button.

What makes OnPar different from other GPS products?
There are many features that clearly distinguish OnPar from other GPS and rangefinders on the market. The primary features are:
  • Ease of use: One touch provides distance to anywhere or tracks a shot. Most other devices require scrolling through lists of pre-set targets or pressing several buttons to get a personalized lay-up distance.
  • Visuals: High contrast color golf course maps and advanced 3.5” LCD technology enables easy viewing, even in direct sunlight.
  • Personalized: Provides ANY distance YOU need, one touch shot tracking and club selection feedback that helps YOU make better game management decisions…and it’s really fun to use!
  • NO FEES: No membership fees, no course map fees.

I don't see my course downloaded to my Onpar device?
The course list view on your OnPar device lists the all the courses on your device. You will need to scroll down the list to see other courses you have loaded on your device. The screen only shows about 5 courses at a time. OnPar requires a touch and drag motion versus an iPhone or iPod touch and "flick" typr motion. Also, use a precise touch versus a harder mashing touch. The harder you press the screen, the less responsive/accurate your input.

Why does my GPS takes a long time or doesn't seem accurate?

If you feel you are having trouble getting satellite signal or accurate readings try the following steps and remember some key criteria about GPS in general:

1) Turn on OnPar and go to the Menu>Settings then click the "Reset" button for GPS.

2) When you turn on your OnPar, make sure you have clear view of the sky and you are not moving.  This will give your OnPar the best chance to acquire the best signal the quickest.

Key criteria about GPS in general:

1) Technically, your OnPar is downloading data from satellites that will be used to calculate your location while using your OnPar that day.  The data must be downloaded from each satellite with absolutely no errors to provide an accurate location.  If you are moving around/under trees/buildings it may take several tries to receive the data needed uninterrupted and display an accurate position.

2) Once you receive a good signal and position, this data is stored in the OnPar RAM and a signal and accurate position can be seen when you resume from suspend mode as long as your resume within 15 minutes.  If your OnPar was in suspend longer than 15 minute, it may need to download satellite data again to update the position/distanced

How do I download the scores and tracked shots from my OnPar?
Simply connect your device to your PC, log in via OnPar Synchro window, and then synchronize like you are adding courses. The OnPar Synchro window will open and allow you to check the options you want to sycnhronize (for fastet synchronization, make sure only the "Stats and Scores" check box is checked). After the synchro process displays it is complete, close the window and open an internet window and go to www.OnParGPS.com and login. There you can click the button "MyTracked Shots" or "MyScorecards" to download the information you just synchronized from your OnPar. NOTE: If you use Mozilla/Firefox as your web browser, be sure to follow the steps above and DO NOT try to download your scores/stats while you are still in the OnPar Synchro window.

My OnPar displays "Synchronizing", what does that mean?

Synchronization Clarification

However, if you find an error on a course map such as missing bunker, water hazard, etc., we want to hear from you. Please go to our support page, and email us at support@savantgps.com . Be sure to give us the course name, location, and other details to assist us in correcting this course map.

My screen turns off sometimes. What does this mean?
Your OnPar device has a battery conservation feature that screen locks your OnPar after 3 minutes of non activity. You can always tell if your OnPar device is in screen lock by the power button blinking green. You can resume usage of your OnPar by quickly clicking the power button (Holding the power button for more than 2 seconds will turn off your OnPar). My OnPar freezes or doesn’t come out of suspend?
Check that you are not storing the device in a carrying case with a magnetic closure; some magnets can interfere with the Touch Screen responsiveness. Some cases have larger magnets than others and may or may not affect your OnPar. A touchscreen is basically many thin metal wires and magnets can interfere with their responsiveness and cause the device to freeze.

If you are transferring a device, you will need to do a few steps:
  • 1) Press the red “Delete Profile” button form the Settings screen

How is OnPar different from a laser rangefinder?
OnPar works on GPS which will show your distance to any point on the course whether you can physically see that point or not. You can just touch any point on the map and get distances to the selected point. Lasers work on objects you can “shoot”. It is difficult to “shoot” water, sand, grass, etc., and therefore laser rangefinders are limited in their targeting ability.

How will OnPar help my golf game?
OnPar provides you with information tailored to you to make the best decisions and lower your score. You can find the distance to any point or layup distance with a single touch. This provides you the information you want instantly without having to walk around looking for yardage markers or pressing a bunch of buttons. Tracking your shots builds a history of your club averages so you can always know which club you should use for a given distance you are trying to hit.

Battery life can be extended if the user utilizes the “screen lock” function regularly during a golf round. NOTE: The battery of the OnPar GPS Touchscreen Rangefinder is built in, “not replaceable by consumer”. What is GPS? What is the cost?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation and precise-positioning tool implemented, maintained, and made publicly available by the US government. GPS is made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. These satellites send radio signals to Earth that contain information about the satellite. Using the WAAS ground-based correction system, signals are transmitted to the GPS receiver that correct the position transmitted by the GPS satellites. GPS can show your position on earth anytime, anywhere and in any weather. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.

How accurate is GPS and the OnPar?
US government reports show WAAS corrected GPS to be accurate to less than 3 meters 95% of the time. Independent tests by other agencies have shown WAAS corrected GPS to be even more accurate.

At the bottom of the Club Power screen, a golfer would touch "Reset Club Averages" and a pop up window will appear asking to confirm reset "Yes/No". If a golfer touches "Yes", the Min/Avg/Max are reset to zero. Also, when using the OnClub feature, all club averages are changed to the factory default settings until new shots are tracked to begin automatically updating the club averages again. No data is deleted; however, the club average data is calculated based from golf rounds after the reset is used. Reset can be used as often as a golfer chooses. To conform to the USGA, we are not allowed to update the club averages shown on the ClubPower screen until 1 calendar day after that round of golf. When your device acquires a signal to update its date and time, it will show the updated averages.
